The Way It Was Then – The Way It Is Now

The Bacher looks back on a moving history – a story of courage, unity, and change. Today, we run our family business in St. Leonhard near Brixen – now known as the Bacher Apartment Hotel in the South Tyrolean mountains – in the third generation, with passion, a deep connection to nature, and the desire to create a place for true time-outs. Back then, it was the mountain farm Bacherhof, built on a steep slope above Brixen – surrounded by forest, meadows, and hard work. Then came the night of February 13, 1951 – and with it, the avalanche. It destroyed the entire farm. Anton Gostner Senior and his family survived as if by a miracle, but in one moment they lost their home and their everyday life. Giving up was never an option. With the help of neighbors and plenty of hard work, a new home arose on safer ground – the new Bacherhof, rebuilt with shovels, heart, and hope.
For a long time, it remained a traditional mountain farm with animals, alpine meadows, and plenty of manual labor – until Anton “Bacher Toni” Gostner and his wife Greti took the next step: they transformed the farm into a small guesthouse in the mountains of South Tyrol, laying the foundation for today’s family-run apartment hotel in Brixen.
